The birthplace of golf in America

Golf first came to America in 1786 when the South Carolina Golf Club opened in an area that is now part of downtown Charleston's historic district. The Country Club of Charleston, located on James Island, was originally established in 1901 and still operates as a thriving club today.

Private Golf

Charleston is home to many neighborhoods with private membership clubs that offer divers amenities. From private resort communities with scenic coastal golf to suburban golf communities in Mt. Pleasant and beyond, golfers can find a variety of club options in Charleston.

Public & Resort Courses

There are plenty of excellent public access courses, including scenic Patriot's Point in Mt. Pleasant and the Charleston "Muni" on James Island. The resort courses at Wild Dunes and Kiawah Island are semi-private, so Charleston residents can enjoy coastal gofl year-round.

Charleston's in-town country club

Daniel Island Park is a classic golf neighborhood that is home to the private Daniel Island Club. The neighborhood's breathtaking setting of marsh and live oaks is the backdrop for courses by Tom Fazio and Rees Jones.
